Saracens could be set to give Matt Henjak the chance to resurrect his career in the Guinness Premiership.

The Australian scrum-half's career in Australia seems to be over after he was fired by a Rugby Western Australia conduct committee following a bar-room brawl with team-mate Haig Sare.

Sare was left with the broken jaw after the incident in Perth – however former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones is ready to offer Henjak, who played in the Premiership for Harlequins, a chance.

Jones, who is set to become Saracens director of rugby next season and currently works with the club as an advisor, capped Henjak four times during his time as national coach.

However he also sent the 26-year-old home from the 2005 tour of South Africa following an incident in a Cape Town nightclub.

“I would give him another chance if the circumstances were right, no hesitation,” Jones told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“He deserves the punishment but still deserves to have a future as a footballer.

“Matt is essentially a good kid. But it is true, there have been a number of alcohol-related incidents.

“And I did sense that he had an issue then (in 2005). We sought to address the problem. He came on the Wallabies tour later that year and played well, especially against Ireland.

“We thought he had turned the corner. But it seems now that the corner was just too far away.”
