Harlequins have announced that academy coach Mark Mapletoft will leave the club at the end of the 2019/20 season after a decade in their ranks.

First joining the club under former director of rugby Conor O’Shea in 2010, a ten-year tenure with Harlequins has seen the former England fly-half hold the roles of attack coach, backs coach and head coach, before taking up his current title of academy coach in July of last year.

During his time with Harlequins, Mapletoft played a key role in the winning of major silverware, most notably the 2011/12 Premiership and 2010/11 European Challenge Cup titles.

Speaking following confirmation of his departure, Mapletoft said: “The 2011/12 Premiership final will always stand as the highlight of my time with Harlequins. To see such a talented side lift the trophy against opposition as tough as Leicester Tigers was a special moment.

“It’s been a privilege to work with genuine Harlequins legends over the years and the squad from that final will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Commenting on Mapletoft’s departure, Harlequins general manager Billy Millard said: “Tofty [Mapletoft] has been a key part of Harlequins’ DNA for a decade, it’s no coincidence the Club achieved some of its most notable silverware during his time with Quins.

“From the first XV to our current academy setup, Mark has had a real and lasting impact, and we wish him nothing but the best in his future.”
