Halfpenny wants third title

Toulon full-back Leigh Halfpenny is eyeing up a third Champions Cup title as his side prepares to take on Clermont at Stade Marcel Michelin.

Sunday’s quarter-final meeting is the last of the four matches and Halfpenny feels refreshed after a mini break following the Six Nations.

“I’m very happy to be back and to be back out with the guys,” he told EPC Rugby ahead of the all-French fixture at Clermont’s home.

“This week is hugely exciting for the team and it’s a big game for all of us with our history in this competition want to go out and win it again. We know it’s going to be a big, big challenge because ASM are a quality team.”

Meanwhile, head coach Mike Ford is also in a determined mood as he looks to depart the club with European silverware in his hands.

“I understand Mourad Boudjellal’s philosophy in wanting a French coach and I wish Fabien Galthié all the best,” said the former Bath director of rugby, with Galthié taking over at the helm at Toulon from next season.

“There are no hard feelings, I am loving every minute of being in Toulon and I have become a better coach. I’m going to give it my best shot until the end of the season and I still want to win both competitions.”
