George Skivington: Gloucester head coach rewarded with new deal at Premiership outfit
Gloucester have confirmed that head coach George Skivington has put pen to paper on a long-term contract extension at the Premiership outfit.
Former second-row Skivington, 39, arrived at the Cherry and Whites in the summer of 2020 and has enjoyed a successful second season at Kingsholm.
Gloucester are currently pushing for a top four finish in the Premiership and also reached the quarter-final stage of the Challenge Cup this campaign.
They took a punt on me
When talking about his new contract, Skivington revealed it was an easy decision to commit his future, saying he is “massively grateful” to the club.
“I’m massively grateful to the club for giving me this contract. The club did take a punt on me. There were higher profile coaches that they could have gone for which would have been the easy option in terms of people’s perceptions,” he said.
“My ambition is to prove them right and show them that they’ve hired the right guy and I’ll continue to do that. We want to be a successful club year after year.”
After a tough first season in charge, Skivington is delighted with how they have progressed in 2021/22 as he looks to finish the campaign strongly.
“What we’ve done over the last couple of years is lay really good foundations. We’ve grown the way we play and the culture so that everyone knows what’s expected of them day to day,” he continued.
“There’s huge untapped potential and that’s massively exciting.”
Gloucester chief executive Officer Lance Bradley said: “We’ve been delighted with what George has brought to the club. We have a long-term vision for success both on and off the field, and George has made, and continues to make, a significant contribution towards that.
“Nothing that’s worth having comes without teamwork and a lot of hard work over a period of time. This season we’re starting to see the results of that teamwork and hard work, and with the extension of George’s contract, we’re sure we’ll see things building further over the next few seasons.”
