New Zealand Sevens captain DJ Forbes admits that the thought of winning all eight legs of the International Rugby Board (IRB) Sevens World Series has crossed his mind.

“It's [winning all eight tournaments] been on the tongue. It has never been done before and is something every team wants to aim for,” Forbes said on Thursday.

However, he did explain that if his team harboured any aspirations of pulling it off, they had to focus on the task at hand in the San Diego leg of the IRB World Series on Saturday and Sunday.

“We will definitely be aiming for four in a row this weekend and you never know what could happen after that.

“There is big unity in this team, the boys are good together. There are a lot of combinations we could chuck out. The 12 players in this team could easily play in a Final at any one time,” added Forbes.

“We have a good team to do it. So we will see how it goes and we will leave it at that,” said Forbes.

Forbes also realises better than anyone else that the task of winning a tournament is going to get substantially harder as long as his team keeps winning.

“As far as we're concerned every game for us is a Final. We know that every team hasn't got anything to lose and they want to be their best against us, We expect that and we're always well prepared for it.

“I also guess it works both ways. When we go out there, we show respect to them by putting on as many points as we can,” added Forbes.

The New Zealand captain said that the one facet of the game the team needed to focus on in particular was their defence, which by the way has been nothing short of outstanding throughout the Series thus far.

“Our defence is always key. Whenever we're good in confrontation and contact, we always do well,” said Forbes.
