Fly-half Ryan Lamb announces his retirement
Worcester's Ryan Lamb celebrates with the Championship Trophy after victory in the Play Off Final, second leg match at Sixways Stadium, Worcester.
La Rochelle and former England Saxons fly-half Ryan Lamb has decided to hang up his boots following a professional career which spanned 15 years at six different clubs.
The pivot has struggled with injury since joining the French team and was not included in the squad which suffered semi-final heartbreak against Toulouse on Saturday. Jono Gibbes’ men succumbed 20-6 to Les Rouge et Noir at the Matmut Atlantique as a positive campaign ended on a disappointing note.
Lamb has duly called it quits having enjoyed over a decade in the game playing for Gloucester, London Irish, Northampton Saints, Leicester Tigers and Worcester Warriors in England, and La Rochelle in France.
“I would like to thank every player, coach and fan that has helped and supported me over the last 15 years,” he posted on Twitter.
“I feel so lucky to be able to travel the globe and play with and against some of the best players in the world but more importantly I’ve met some great people who I will call friends for life!
“Biggest thank you to my family – without my mum and dad I would have never had the opportunities when I was young – and also to my wife Danielle and my children who have followed and supported me everywhere on my rugby journey.”

Lamb was once seen as a great hope in English rugby and was outstanding for Gloucester as they finished top of the Premiership in 2007 and ’08.
He struggled to recapture that form, however, and left for London Irish in 2009, before moves to Northampton and Leicester followed.
The talented playmaker then joined Worcester and helped them to win promotion to the Premiership when a last-gasp conversion won the Championship play-off final against Bristol.
His time at the Warriors ended in 2017 as La Rochelle snapped him up and the fly-half impressed when given an opportunity, but injuries often prevented the 33-year-old from getting onto the field.
