Five-try Scotland ease past Georgia in Tbilisi

Scotland picked up a 44-10 victory over Georgia at the Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi on Saturday in what was a clinical performance on the road.

Their tries came from Ben Toolis, a brace from Rory Hutchinson, Darcy Graham and Scott Cummings while Greig Laidlaw, Finn Russell and Adam Hastings added points off the kicking tee, with Gregor Townsend’s men taking a great deal of confidence from this showing.

In reply the Georgians crossed just once, through replacement Kakha Asieshvili, as the teams played out an historic game with Scotland the first Six Nations team to have a fixture in this country. The pair will meet again next Friday at Murrayfield in their final warm-up game.

It was an impressive opening 40 minutes from Scotland as they crossed twice, through Toolis and Hutchinson, to go into the break 23-3 ahead.

Laidlaw opening the scoring with two penalties before Toolis capped off a lovely attacking move from Scotland on 14 minutes to make it 13-0.

Georgia were struggling to keep pace with their Six Nations opposition and things got worse when Hutchinson sliced through for a 20-0 lead.

A high tackle gave Georgia a shot for points on 30 minutes and Matiashvili made no mistake off the tee, but Laidlaw responded on half-time.

It took a confident Scotland just seven minutes to extend their lead after the break when, from an attacking scrum, Hutchinson hit an excellent line to pick up his second try of the evening. With Laidlaw continuing his 100 percent record off the tee, the Scots were now 30-3 in front.

The home fans finally had something to cheer on 57 minutes when prop Asieshvili crossed from close range for a try converted by Abzhandadze.

Their joy was shortlived however as Scotland responded swiftly with Russell’s grubber through for Graham allowing the winger make it 37-10.

Scotland made it 44-10 on 74 minutes when a quickly taken penalty by Ali Price sent Cummings in, adding the gloss on an impressive result.
