England set to appoint Simon Amor as attack coach
Former Sevens star Simon Amor is set to be appointed as England’s attack coach in the coming days, replacing the outgoing Scott Wisemantel.
Planet Rugby understands that Amor, who is currently in charge of the England Men’s Sevens side, will be confirmed in the position next week.
Amor also led Great Britain to the silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil, as he has followed up an impressive playing career with a strong coaching CV. He played for England Sevens from 2001 to 2006, helping the side to win another silver medal, at the Commonwealth Games.
Following Wisemantel’s departure to join the Wallabies after the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, England were on the hunt for a replacement. It is believed that the Rugby Football Union were eager to promote Amor to the vacant position where he will work under head coach Eddie Jones.
Jones still remains without a scrum coach after Neal Hatley’s return to Premiership side Bath while there has been uncertainty over the future of Steve Borthwick, which is a concern for England as their Six Nations campaign kicks off in less than a month, against France on February 2.
England head into the tournament on the back of an impressive performance at Rugby World Cup 2019, finishing as runners-up to South Africa.
