England, Bath sweating on Sam Underhill injury

England are sweating over the fitness of openside flanker Sam Underhill after he injured his ankle in Bath‘s victory over Leicester on Sunday.

Underhill, who was one of England’s standout performers during their November Test programme, was in fine form for Bath in their 23-16 triumph over the Tigers at the Recreation Ground but was forced off the field early in the second half with his injury.

Bath director of rugby Todd Blackadder could not shed much light on the extend of Underhill’s injury, which will be a concern for England head coach Eddie Jones as they start their Six Nations campaign against defending champions Ireland in Dublin on February 2.

“Underhill was brilliant,” Blackadder told Sky Sports.

“He and Francois Louw were all over the ball tonight.”

As for Underhill’s injury, Blackadder said: “He’s just rolled his ankle. It was serious enough for him to come off.”
