England boss Eddie Jones has held talks with Racing 92 over taking on the head coach role following the conclusion of his contract with the Red Rose, according to reports in France.

Midi Olympique have claimed that Jones met with the French club and has shown interest in taking the reins at the Parisians as current coach Laurent Travers is set to become president of the club.

Racing are one of the biggest teams in the Top 14 and reached the Champions Cup semi-finals at the weekend after securing a comfortable 41-22 triumph over Sale Sharks in the last-eight.

Under pressure

Jones’ England contract runs out after the 2023 Rugby World Cup, with the Australian under increasing pressure after an average Six Nations performance that saw his side finish in third place.

Despite calls for the 62-year-old to be removed from his position, the Rugby Football Union has backed Jones, claiming they had seen progress during the Six Nations, much to the disagreement of English fans.

RFU chief Bill Sweeney has said that an Englishman would be preferred to take on the hot seat after the Australian’s departure, with Ireland coach Andy Farrell one of those earmarked for the job with Leicester Tigers’ Steve Borthwick also in the mix.
