Denny Solomona: Former England and Sale Sharks wing signs for New Zealand provincial side
Former England and Sale wing Denny Solomona has signed with North Harbour ahead of their 2022 National Provincial Championship (NPC) campaign.
The duel international has returned to New Zealand to play in the nation’s premier domestic rugby union competition after a long stint in England where he played both codes of the sport.
Solomona played for London Broncos and Castleford Tigers in the Super League over three years, where he earned a place in the 2016 Super League Dream Team, before switching to rugby union where he played for the Sale Sharks and England.
During his time as a rugby league player, he also represented Samoa once in 2016 before being called up to England’s union team in 2017 for their tour of Argentina following the code switch.
Should thrive
Many will expect Solomona to thrive at his new club, which is a step down from the international player-loaded Premiership.
His new team put out a statement as part of their signing announcement: “With Solomona’s strength and speed he will provide some quality experience to an exciting North Harbour NPC group.
“We look forward to Denny joining the NPC team and more importantly, the Harbour community.”
North Harbour fans have good reason to be excited for Solomona’s return to his birth nation as he scored 46 tries in his 88 starts for Sale, that’s over one try every other game.
