Daniel Hourcade to step down as Argentina boss

Argentina’s Daniel Hourcade will leave his position as head coach of the national team following the game with Scotland next weekend.

The Pumas have struggled under his stewardship over recent years and were comfortably beaten by Wales in their latest matches.

They succumbed 30-12 to the European outfit in the second Test on Saturday to lose 2-0 in the series and it has now been decided that the boss will depart after the Scotland encounter.

Hourcade led Argentina to the semi-finals of the 2015 World Cup but results have declined since then, culminating in two disappointing performances against Warren Gatland’s men.

“We (with his assistants) think that the message is no longer getting through to the team, we’ve reached the end of a cycle,” Hourcade said.

“We assume the responsibility of making this decision, having already mentioned the possibility… before the June Tests.”
