The Brumbies have announced that hooker Connal McInerney has agreed to an early contract extension, keeping him at the club until the end of 2021.

Born and raised in Canberra, McInerney graduated from the Brumbies academy having played for the Australian Capital Territory at various junior representative levels as well as the Junior Wallabies in 2015.

The 24-year-old made his Super Rugby debut in 2018, coming into the squad as injury cover, before earning a full-time contract for the 2019 season.

“I’m delighted to be staying at the Brumbies,” McInerney told the Brumbies’ official website.

“The culture of the Brumbies, the family environment, it’s the only club I’ve ever wanted to play for.

“I’ve been a fan of the club my whole life, so it’s truly a dream come true to come into work every day and represent the club and what it means.”

McInerney made 10 appearances in 2019, alongside Wallabies hooker Folau Fainga’a, famously scoring a hat-trick against the Sunwolves in Tokyo.

“As a club we’re delighted to have Connal with us until at least the end of next year,” said Brumbies head coach Dan McKellar.

“He’s born and bred Canberra, and a really well respected and liked figure, not just amongst the playing group, but amongst the organisation as a whole.

“He’s made some really big strides in the last two years since graduating through the academy here at the Brumbies and we’re all looking forward to seeing him continue to improve his game in 2020 and beyond.”

The Brumbies kick off their 2020 Super Rugby campaign against the Reds at GIO Stadium on January 31.
