Cobus Reinach leads Saints to victory over Worcester

Scrum-half Cobus Reinach produced a superb display to help Northampton Saints move into sixth place in the Premiership following a 32-6 victory over Worcester Warriors at Sixways.

Reinach was magnificent throughout, both in attack and defence, and scored the decisive try to help ease their relegation concerns in a remarkably tight league table.

Both these sides have interspersed promising displays with some abject performances, but it was Northampton who comfortably had the better of proceedings on Friday.

Under the tutelage of Chris Boyd, they have improved their transition from defence into attack and the Saints were dangerous off turnover ball. They created a number of decent situations with Luther Burrell, Ahsee Tuala and Taqele Naiyaravoro getting them on the front foot.

Northampton initially failed to get over the line, however, which meant the visitors had to be content with four penalties from the boot of Dan Biggar.

By contrast, Worcester’s Duncan Weir, who had gone into the match with 19 successful kicks in a row in the Premiership, struggled off the tee and missed two of his three attempts in the opening period.

Weir’s issues were symptomatic of the Warriors, who were well below their best. They managed to dominate the scrum battle, but the away side had the better of the encounter.

Bryce Heem almost sparked Worcester into life but Reinach was there to halt him just short of the line and, in the following passage of play, the scrum-half intercepted, scampered 95 metres and ended the game as a contest.

After that try, the hosts’ spirit dissipated and Northampton capitalised as Biggar added two more three-pointers before Burrell crossed the whitewash for an ultimately comfortable win.
