Chiefs lock in Shaun Stevenson until 2023

The Chiefs have announced that promising outside back Shaun Stevenson has signed a new contract with the Super Rugby franchise until 2023.

The 22-year-old debuted for the Chiefs in 2016 against the Crusaders, a year after his provincial debut. In 2017 he won the Brisbane Global Rugby Tens player of the tournament. His ability earned him selection in last year’s Maori All Blacks end-of-year tour on which he debuted.

Stevenson said he is pleased to be able to continue his journey with the Chiefs.

“I am pleased to have re-signed with the Gallagher Chiefs. It is a great club to be a part of. I play with a good group of guys and there is a great culture here. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” he told the team’s website.

Chiefs head coach Colin Cooper added that Stevenson is a talented young player with plenty to offer the team.

“At only 22 years of age he is the future for the Gallagher Chiefs. We expect he will deliver a number of good performances for our team in the years to come,” said Cooper.
