Cheika rules Beale out

Australia coach Michael Cheika has confirmed that Wasps utility back Kurtley Beale will take no part in the Wallabies' June internationals.

Beale limped off in Wasps' dramatic 21-20 Premiership semi-final win over Leicester on Saturday, raising concerns over whether he would be available for the final against Exeter this Saturday.

And Wallabies coach Cheika is approaching the situation with caution, opting to rest Beale for the Test matches against Fiji, Scotland and Italy.

"Kurtley won't be coming back, I've spoken with him," Cheika told the Daily Mail.

"I think considering the injury status he had before he left and now, a couple of niggles towards the end of the season… I'd rather he had just a month off, keeps himself in some kind of nick.

'"And (when) he gets back here, has a good pre-season, or a version of a pre-season, before the Rugby Championship."

Meanwhile, Cheika confirmed that scrum-half Will Genia would take part, making him the only overseas-based player in the squad.

Genia will return home after he plays for Stade Français against Northampton in the European Champions Cup play-off final on Friday.

"He'll be playing in the test series," Cheika added. "I'm happy to run him first cab off the rank. You never say no to him playing in Australia."
