Champions Cup final highlights: La Rochelle edge out Leinster in thrilling occasion

Check out the highlights from the Champions Cup final where La Rochelle claimed a stunning 24-21 victory over Leinster at the Stade Velodrome on Saturday.

In a wonderful match, the Irish province had the upper hand in the early stages thanks to the French outfit’s ill-discipline. Johnny Sexton duly kicked his side 6-0 ahead before their opponents scored the first try of the game through Raymond Rhule.

La Rochelle continued to create opportunities but it was Leinster who held a 12-7 advantage at the break through two more Sexton three-pointers.

Ihaia West was on target with one of his own at the start of the second period but Leo Cullen’s men were 18-10 in front going into the final quarter.

However, Pierre Bourgarit got Ronan O’Gara’s charges back into the contest and, although Ross Byrne responded with a penalty for Leinster, La Rochelle were on the front foot.

They dominated the latter stages and deservedly won the Champions Cup title late on when Arthur Retiere touched down.
