Champions Cup: Damian Penaud out for six weeks
Clermont have been handed a bitter aftertaste from last weekend’s derby win over Brive, with wing Damian Penaud out for six weeks.
Penaud rolled his right ankle in a tackle late in the match and is now set to miss both the Champions Cup matches against Leicester as well as a possible quarter-final should Clermont overcome the Tigers.
Missing the run-in
He will also miss Top 14 matches against Castres and Stade Francais, pivotal in Clermont’s drive for a Champions Cup place for next season.
Elsewhere, Lyon back-row Jordan Taufua has extended his time in Lyon for another three years, to the end of the 2024/25 season.
The New Zealander has been a mainstay of Lyon’s back-row, scoring five tries in his 22 appearances this season.
Former international referee Romain Poite is joining Toulon for two seasons as a consultant, while hooker Chris Tolofua has extended his contract for two seasons.
