Hooker McInally got Edinburgh up and running inside three minutes before Boyle’s brace put them firmly in command with just 20 minutes played.

Pyrgos added the bonus-point try before Edinburgh went back to their pack with Nel, an early injury replacement at prop, going over before half-time.

Moyano and back-row replacement Phillips got in on the act in the second half, with fly-half Jaco van der Walt converting all bar Boyle’s first try. Moyano’s second score, converted by Charlie Savala, rounded off the scoring late on for an impressive Edinburgh.

Saracens hammer Brive to progress

Elsewhere, Saracens also qualified for the last 16 of the Challenge Cup as the Premiership outfit hammered Brive 55-5 at the Stade Amédée-Doménech.

The visitors were 8-0 up after 10 minutes through England international Owen Farrell’s penalty and Scotland flanker Andy Christie’s try and though Setariki Tuicuvu responded for Brive, they were soon out of the game as Saracens turned the screw in France.

Forward duo Eroni Mawi and Nick Isiekwe made it 22-5 at the turnaround and scrum-half Ivan van Zyl scored inside a minute of the second period.

Ben Earl and Rotimi Segun dotted down either side of the hour mark before Brive full-back Axel Muller was red-carded for a high shot in the build-up to Jamie George’s try and Ben Harris finished the job, Farrell finishing with 15 points on a comfortable night.
