Carter sees bright future for Hook

Hook scored 16 points in Wales' shock victory against the World Cup Finalists. Carter believes that Hook is set to become a “global star” who can “definitely be as good as me” he told the South Wales Evening Post in an exclusive interview.

In a game where many eyes would have been on England's star fly-halves Johnny Wilkinson and Danny Cipriani, Hook played an influential role in his team's historic win.

It had been 20 years since Wales won at England's south-west London fortress and Carter is of the opinion that Hook is capable of being an integral part of his team's rebirth if he trusts his instincts.

“It's important he plays his own way because he plays very well when he does that and I know what he's capable of as well,” he said.

“James made a real impact when he first started in international rugby.

“He played about 10 or 12 games off the bench and to me he made an impression.

“He's just got to go out there now and play with confidence because when he does that he backs his ability and he's got great instincts.

“I think he can go out and be a great player and he can .

“What he has to do is to get some more experience for Wales and the Ospreys by playing more games and being more consist because you can't have one great game one week and then not back it up the following week.

“James has just got to string some good performances together every week and play his own game.”
