Stormers flanker Schalk Burger has been suspended for two weeks by the SANZAR Judicial Committee, following an incident during last weekend's Super 14 loss to the Sharks in Durban.

The World Cup-winning Springbok star has a right to appeal the sentence which runs from February 23 to March 8.

The Judicial Committee, chaired by Jannie Lubbe, found that Burger had acted in a manner contrary to good sportsmanship.

Burger became involved in a scuffle between Sharks captain Johann Muller and one of Burger's team-mates, prop Brian Mujati – an illegal action pointed out by touch judge Willie Roos.

New Zealand referee Kelvin Deaker, who also saw Burger's entrance into the fray, yellow carded Burger.

The hearing was convened to consider the citing of Burger, following an incident in which the Citing Commissioner alleged that the player had shown an abusive sign to Roos after being yellow carded.

During the hearing, Burger conceded that by showing signs after receiving a yellow card, he acted in breach of the law but strongly denied abusing Roos.
