Glasgow and Scotland hooker Fraser Brown will be sidelined for four months after undergoing an operation on his ankle.

Brown will miss the beginning of the PRO12 season and is also a major doubt for Scotland's November internationals.

The 28-year-old has become an integral part of the national team, having played in all eight of Scotland's internationals this year.

With Glasgow Warriors' Scotland internationals returning to training today, the club revealed on their official website that Brown was not one of them.

"Hooker Fraser Brown is not among the players returning, having successfully undergone ankle surgery last week at BMI Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow," read a statement on the club's official website.

"The 28-year-old is expected to face a recovery period of up to four months."
