Bordeaux-Begles part ways with Rory Teague

Bordeaux-Begles have announced that head coach Rory Teague has left the club “by mutual consent” following an inconsistent start to the season.

The Englishman initially took over in January after the departure of Jacques Brunel, who left to be in charge of the France national team, but Bordeaux’s form slumped and they ended the campaign in 10th place.

Hopes were higher this time around with some big-name arrivals in the playing squad, but they have only won four of their nine games in the Top 14 and lost their previous match 40-0 to Toulouse.

Former England flanker Joe Worsley has taken the reins as interim head coach and his first game will be against Toulon on November 24.

A statement said: “Union Bordeaux-Begles and Rory Teague have ended their work together by mutual consent.

“The club recognise the immense work done by Rory Teague in professionalising the club’s structures and we wish him the best for the rest of his career.”
