Springbok wing Aphiwe Dyantyi has received a blow after his B-sample tested for banned substances came back positive.

The South African Institute for Drug Free Sport (Saids) confirmed the news, this coming after he tested positive for a prohibited substance on July 2.

Dyantyi, who plays for the Lions in Super Rugby, had his B-sample tested at the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) accredited laboratory at the University of the Free State. The test confirmed the results of the A-sample of the presence of the banned substances: metandienone, methyltestosterone and LGD-4033.

The Springbok has been formally charged with a doping offence for multiple anabolic steroids and metabolites and must now decide whether to accept the charge or fight it.

Dyantyi was not included in South Africa’s squad for the Rugby World Cup, with the Springboks in the same pool as New Zealand, Italy, Namibia and Canada.

The wing was named World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year in 2018.
