Beauden Barrett coy on future

All Blacks and Hurricanes fly-half Beauden Barrett remained tight-lipped when asked about his playing future in New Zealand after the Rugby World Cup.

When asked where he plans to play after the global showpiece which takes place in Japan later this year Barrett would not elaborate saying instead he is focusing on the Hurricanes’ upcoming match against the Melbourne Rebels in Wellington on Saturday.

“I’ll talk about that [playing future in New Zealand] in due course, I’ll just focus on the game tomorrow at the moment,” Barrett told TVNZ.

Earlier this week, All Blacks and Crusaders lock Sam Whitelock announced a four-year contract extension with NZ Rugby which includes a stint with the Panasonic Wild Knights in Japan’s Top League.

Barrett’s contract with New Zealand Rugby is set to be up for renewal at the end of 2019.

“Look my team is working on it and I’m being patient, I’ll be ready to hopefully announce something soon if all things fall into place,” added Barrett.

“I don’t know the ins and outs of his [Whitelock] contract, I don’t want to comment.”
