Australian fly-half Kurtley Beale is focused on working overtime in a bid to prove his fitness for the Wallabies' European tour in November after injuring himself in training.
Beale, who on Friday was named the best U20 player in the Super 14, broke his right hand in a gym accident last week.
The injury comes just a week before he was set for a return to action having recovered from torn ankle ligaments sustained in the Super 14 final. Beale will now not play for Sydney team Norths this season.
“It's frustrating,” Beale said of the setback to The Sun-Herald.
“I knocked it in the gym and will need to have an operation so doctors can put a pin in my hand.
“But I'll be back in the gym as soon as possible to get some conditioning in case I am selected for the Wallabies' tour of Europe. I have to work hard on the rehab.”
Beale beat his Australian U20 World Cup captain David Pocock to the recent award for the Super 14's best young player.
“That's what makes this a real honour, ” he said.
“Australian rugby has plenty of talented young blokes, they all have great futures. I was shocked to win it, but I'm happy.”
