Baldwin bitten by lion

Ospreys hooker Scott Baldwin missed their PRO14 game against the Cheetahs on Friday after being bitten by a lion in Bloemfontein.

Head coach Steve Tandy confirmed the news in the post-match press conference after his side went down to a disappointing 44-25 away defeat.

Coach Tandy revealed the Welsh international put his hand into an area where he shouldn’t have and that “it was pretty stupid on Scott’s behalf”.

He required stitches with an Ospreys statement adding: “Ospreys Rugby can confirm that Scott Baldwin sustained a hand injury on Wednesday.

“The team doctor treated a laceration and, subsequently, he was admitted to a local hospital in Bloemfontein on Thursday evening for further treatment to prevent infection.

“He will be released on Saturday morning to travel home with the rest of the squad as planned.”
