Current Leicester technical director Neil Back believes he is just the man to take over as Head Coach.

The former Leicester and England flanker has been interviewed for the role, along with several other candidates including Jake White and Austin Healey.

Leicester gave Marcelo Loffreda the sack at the end of the season, less than a year into his contract, and are actively seeking a new Head Coach ready for the start of pre-season.

Back, who is eager to prove himself as Head Coach, believes he has the credentials having spent 18 years at Welford Road as a player and a coach.

“The most important thing now is that the club appoints the right person as the new Head Coach,” Back, who is also the first-team defence coach, told The Leicester Mercury.

“It is no secret that I have been interviewed for the position and I believe I am ready to take on the role. I have been at Leicester for 18 years as a player and coach and I think I know the club as well as anyone.

“I believe it's important for a club like Leicester to promote from within, and I would love to have the opportunity to take on more responsibility and step up to the next level.

“Promoting from within is what we have generally done at Leicester and, in the past, it has helped maintain our winning culture, given us direction and leadership.”

Back was sad to see Loffreda sacked, but at the same time knows it presents him with an opportunity to further his career.

“Marcelo is a great man and I learned a great deal from him,” he said.

“I feel I am ready to have more of a say in how the club moves forward and I am 100 per cent confident in my own abilities.

“The main body of our squad have a return date of June 30 and I suspect there will be a new head coach in place by then.

“But the important thing is that the club appoints the right man. I believe I am ready for the job, but if the board goes for someone else then they can rely on my full support. I am passionate about Tigers and I want what is best for the club.”
