Eddie Jones is one of the most experienced and successful coaches in the history of world rugby.
An ex-teacher and Randwick hooker, Jones began his coaching career at his former club and has since gone on to coach at the highest echelons of the game.
After a stint in Japan, Jones returned to Australia to take over as Brumbies head coach from the legendary Rod McQueen winning Super Rugby with the team in 2001 before taking charge of the Wallabies and leading them to the Rugby World Cup final in 2003.
Stints at Saracens and the Queensland Reds followed before he helped the Springboks to Rugby World Cup glory in 2007 as an assistant to Jake White.
With Japanese heritage, Jones was drawn back to Asia and in 2012, he was appointed as the Brave Blossoms’ head coach, leading them through to the 2015 Rugby World Cup, where they claimed a famous victory over South Africa dubbed the ‘Brighton Miracle’.
Following this, he took on one of the most challenging roles in international rugby, the England head coach job, and enjoyed immediate success claiming a Six Nations Grand Slam in 2016 and successfully defended their title a year later. England would famously knock the All Blacks out of the 2019 Rugby World Cup before falling to South Africa in the final.
Jones would leave England in 2022 and returned to his former role as Australia’s head coach for the 2023 World Cup. Following an underwhelming pool stage exit, he departed that role to link up with Japan yet again.
Jones joined Planet Rugby as a columnist during the 2025 Six Nations, providing expert analysis on the performances of every team.
