Argentina: Skipper Julian Montoya among five significant returnees for Wallabies Tests

Argentina captain Julian Montoya headlines a group of five players that return from injury to the Los Pumas squad for their two Tests against the Wallabies.

The other significant returnees named by head coach Michael Cheika are the half-back pairing of Tomas Cubelli and Nicolas Sanchez as well as Santiago Cordero and Benjamin Urdapilleta.

Returning from injury

All five headline returnees have recovered from injuries sustained in their dramatic series triumph over Scotland this month.

Prop Santiago Medrano spearheads another group of players returning to the squad, including loose forward Joaquin Oviedo and centre Lucas Mensa.

Cheika has opted to rest key second-row Guido Petti and electric outside back Bautista Delguy for the latter stages of the Rugby Championship.

Los Pumas will be looking to improve on a winless Rugby Championship in 2021 and ride the confidence of the July internationals series win as they welcome Australia for two games in Argentina as part of SANZAAR’s new ‘mini-tour’ schedule.

All eyes are on Cheika, who faces the southern hemisphere giants with Argentina for the first time.
