Ireland front-row Andrew Porter has been cited for a dangerous tackle on All Blacks lock Brodie Retallick during the decisive third Test.

Porter was sent to the sin-bin for his high shot, which resulted in a fractured cheekbone for Retallick, sidelining him for a minimum of six weeks.

Despite being a man down for 10 minutes, Ireland still went on to create history by becoming the first northern hemisphere side to win in New Zealand, thanks to a 32-22 victory in Wellington on Saturday.

Disciplinary hearing

The match citing commissioner reported the incident, and the Irish star will attend a virtual disciplinary hearing on Tuesday.

World Rugby confirmed the details of the hearing, including which law is applicable, as well as the members of the independent judicial committee.

“Ireland prop Andrew Porter will attend an independent disciplinary hearing after having been cited by the citing commissioner James Sherriff (Australia) for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.13 (a player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously) during Ireland’s Test match against New Zealand on July 16,” World Rugby said.

“The player will attend a hearing via video link before an independent judicial committee chaired by Adam Casselden (Australia), joined by former international player Stefan Terblanche (South Africa) and former international coach Frank Hadden (Scotland).”
