All Blacks duo to lead Hurricanes in 2020

The Hurricanes have announced the captaincy for the 2020 Super Rugby season will be shared between All Blacks pair TJ Perenara and Dane Coles.

The duo have played 237 games for the Hurricanes collectively and continue to bring a wealth of experience to the team.

Coles has been a team pillar for the last four years, captaining the side since 2016. In his absence, Perenara has shown he is also a natural leader by stepping into the role.

Both will have to play an even more important role this season following the departure of several key figures, including star backs Beauden Barrett, Matt Proctor and Nehe Milner-Skudder.

Head coach John Plumtree has also departed, joining new All Blacks boss Ian Foster as part of his backroom staff, while influential flanker Ardie Savea could be out for the whole campaign.

Savea injured his knee in the Rugby World Cup semi-final defeat to England and underwent surgery in December to resolve the issue, potentially ruling him out for six months.
