Western Province had the crowd on their feet with an entertaining 41-17 triumph over the Blue Bulls at Newlands in Cape Town.

A frenetic spectacle miles from some of the dross served up by the Stormers earlier in the year, Province played with ambition and real pace out wide, using rising stars Cheslin Kolbe and Seabelo Senatla to full effect.

The 21-year-old Senatla, who clinched gold in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last month, was on hand to rush onto Nic Groom's pass, stepping his way into the corner for the first try.

Tighthead prop Pat Cilliers got in the act with Province's second, charging over from close range and proving too powerful to stop.

Nizaam Carr's effort shortly followed, the powerful back-rower building up a head of steam and hitting the perfect line to crash over unstopped.

Three well-worked tries for the men from Cape Town, but their attitude was the most impressive part of their play.

Able to attack from any area using the pace of their backs and power of the carriers upfront such as Carr and Siya Kolisi, the home side always looked likely to win at Newlands.

They arguably should have been facing 14 men permanently, with number eight Jono Ross lucky to not see either a yellow or red card for his frustrated knee on Michael van der Spuy.

Jacques-Louis Potgieter added two penalties for the visitors on the first half to leave them trailing 19-6 at the break.

The veteran number ten added two more penalties after the interval within three minutes to bring the Bulls within seven points and give them hope.

Catrakilis though added his first three-pointer off the tee to restore order, before the contest descended into chaos with a flurry of yellow cards.

Manuel Carizza was the first to go, his second card in a week after being binned against the Kings, before Springbok JJ Englebrecht followed for throwing the ball away after a scrambling counter-attack.

Not pausing to debate the penalty, Province moved the ball quickly left to give Senatla enough space to weave his way over for a second try.

The hosts then went down to 13 during a passage of draining defence, somehow keeping the Bulls out with Kobus Van Wyk departing after committing a professional foul.

Having survived the onslaught Province made their way upfield to secure the bonus point try, Michael Rhodes getting it done after confirmation from the TMO.

Bulls number eight Grant Hattingh joined the growing collective in the sin-bin for a deliberate knock-on. Trailing 36-12, the contest felt settled.

Bongi Mbonambi was on hand however to snatch what felt like a consolation try from a five-metre lineout move by the Bulls with nine minutes to go, but it was no more than a scoreboard alteration.

Juan de Jongh's input was more significant, breaking the 40-point mark with a stretching finish after some more brilliant, dizzying running from Kolbe for Province's sixth try. Job done.
