On fire: Jackson Wray

Worcester could not pull off the impossible and are now relegated after going down 44-20 to Saracens at Allianz Park on Saturday.

Saracens capitalised on a quick start and pulled away to secure a comfortable win and seal Worcester's fate.

Sarries headed into the game in terrific form, while Worcester were desperate for a win, having been edged out by Bath the previous week.

The win means Sarries have accumulated the highest ever points total for an Aviva Premiership club, while the Warriors must now plan for life outside the top flight.

The hosts opened the scoring through David Strettle's converted try after good work at the scrum, and after Ryan Lamb had narrowed the arrears with a penalty goal they pulled further ahead when Chris Ashton crashed over in the corner.

Alex Goode was wide with the conversion, but he added a penalty goal to make it 15-3.

The Warriors gave themselves a lifeline on the stroke of half-time through Chris Pennell, following good work by Lamb, but their hard work was undone moments before the interval, when exciting play from Marcelo Bosch created the opportunity for Jackson Wray to score.

Goode's penalty seven minutes into the second half made the task even tougher for Worcester, and when Ashton added his second try on 50 minutes, the visitors faced a huge struggle.

Sarries piled on further misery just after the hour through Wray's second under the posts, and he completed his hat-trick four minutes later when he collected a bouncing ball to crash over.

By now the game was over as a contest, but despite their impending relegation Worcester finished the game on a high with two consolation tries.

First Semisi Taulava got over, before Pennell collected Lamb's kick to score an eye-catching try and bring the scoring to a close.
