Jonathan Spratt Ospreys sidesteps LV Cup

Two tries: Jonathan Spratt

Jonathan Spratt and Sam Davies both scored twice as Ospreys ran eleven tries past Treviso in a 75-7 Pro12 drubbing at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.

The hosts went in search of the try bonus-point from the kick-off and they found themselves 21-0 up at the break via scores from Spratt, Ashley Beck and Rhys Webb.

Further touchdowns from Spratt, Aisea Natoga, Jeff Hassler, Davies (twice) Dan Baker, Hanno Dirksen and Ryan Jones sealed the win and their position in the Pro12 play-offs, while Mantvydas Tveraga went over for a consolation score for Treviso.

Despite a poor European campaign, where they were eliminated at the group stage, the hosts have enjoyed a good domestic season. And they set their stall out early on by moving the ball wide from the kick-off.

They continued in that vein throughout the first period, but it took them until the 21st minute to open the scoring. Webb, who was a constant menace to the Treviso defence, darted around the fringes and off-loaded to Spratt who crossed the whitewash.

That try proved to be the catalyst for further Ospreys' tries. Soon after, the ever-dangerous Natoga broke down the left-hand side and presented Beck with the easiest of scores.

Webb then dummied his way through some flimsy Benetton defence as the Welsh region went into the break with a 21-0 advantage.

The onslaught persisted in the second period as Spratt went over before Natoga followed him as the Ospreys established a 35-0 lead after 49 minutes.

Although Tveraga responded for the Italians with a touchdown of their own, the home side hit back immediately when good work from Beck sent Hassler across the line.

Davies then made it 49-7, after latching onto Matthew Morgan's searing break, before Treviso's Alberto di Bernardo was shown a yellow card.

If it wasn't already difficult to contain Steve Tandy's men, being down to 14 men only increased the pressure as Baker and Dirksen touched down while he was off the field. Jones and Davies both scored late on to complete the rout.
