Toulouse s wing Maxime Medard R evades Connacht

Two tries: Maxime Médard

Toulouse moved level with Saracens at the top of Heineken Cup Pool 3 on Saturday with a convincing 37-9 victory over Connacht at the Galway Sportsground.

Connacht were unable to repeat the momentous result of last week as Toulouse secured a dominant triumph.

The Irish province produced one of the biggest shocks of the Heineken Cup in round three by overcoming the four-time champions 16-14, but three first half tries from Maxime Médard (two) and Christopher Tolofua gave the visitors a 22-9 half-time lead.

Although Dan Parks responded with two drop-goals and a penalty before the break, they were overpowered by the French outfit.

Louis Picamoles and Gael Fickou both went over in the second period, while Lionel Beauxis added 12 points with the boot, as they secured a comfortable win.

After surprising Europe with their win last weekend, Connacht were looking to repeat the feat and a Parks' penalty put them 3-0 ahead after two minutes.

However, the Top 14 team weren't going to take Pat Lam's side lightly once again and, after Beauxis had levelled matters with a three-pointer, Médard touched down.

Parks briefly reduced the arrears with a drop-goal, but the French international winger went over for a second time to give Toulouse a 15-6 advantage.

Connacht's fly-half continued to be impressive with the boot, kicking a second drop-goal, yet it was Toulouse that showed the more enterprise with ball in hand.

And it was no surprise to see Tolofua power over as they went into half-time with a 22-9 lead.

With that comfortable buffer, the visitors proceeded to control the opening stages of the second half and the bonus-point try was secured when Picamoles crossed the whitewash.

Beauxis then added another penalty before Fickou rounded off a resounding win with a final try.
