Byron McGuigan Glasgow v Zbre pro12

Two tries: Byron McGuigan

Glasgow Warriors continued their unbeaten start to the Pro12 season with a 24-17 win over Zebre at Stadio XXV Aprille on Friday.

Wing Byron McGuigan scored either side of half-time and and hooker Dougie Hall also scored but the Scottish side failed to secure a bonus point as Zebre made a comeback in the final quarter.

Having led 24-3 up, Warriors switched off and allowed their hosts to score tries through Samuela Vunisa and Leonardo Sarto to save a losing bonus point.

The Italians headed into the clash on the back of an impressive victory away at Cardiff Blues the previous week, while Glasgow were also in good form, having continued their strong run with victory over Leinster.

A tough start to the match saw opportunities for points to be scored come few and far between, though the battle between the opposing packs intensified as the game progressed.

The first points came on 25 minutes, when Henry Pyrgos capitalised on home indiscipline to boot Glasgow in front, and the lead was extended just a few minutes later.

McGuigan was the man to get over the try-line for the Warriors after enterprising build-up play from Sean Maitland, and Pyrgos was on target with the conversion.

Luciano Orquera responded for Zebre before the break to narrow the deficit to seven, but Glasgow raced further in front after the restart.

Two minutes into the second half, the TMO awarded a try to Doug Hall after Tommy Seymour had laid the foundations with a clean break.

Pyrgos added the conversion, and he was on target again 15 minutes later as he added the extras to McGuigan's second try of the evening, making it 3-24 to the visitors.

But following the sin-binning of Jonny Gray, Zebre struck back through late tries from Samuela Vunisa and Leonardo Sarto.

Orquera converted both to set up a grand-stand finish, but time beat the Italians, and Glasgow held on for a hard-earned victory.
