Two tries: Gareth Davies

Gareth Davies touched down twice as the Scarlets recorded their first victory of the season with a 26-10 triumph over Treviso at Parc y Scarlets on Saturday.

It was the Welsh region who controlled the opening period and deservedly held a 14-3 advantage at half-time through Davies' two tries, with Tobias Botes responding for Treviso.

Ludovico Nitoglia reduced the deficit in the second half, but the boot of Steve Shingler guided the home side to victory after the break.

The Italian outfit have gradually improved over the previous two years despite finishing last season in the bottom half of the Pro12 table. And although Treviso lost their opening encounter of the current campaign after going down to the Ospreys, they were facing a team that had suffered a 42-19 defeat to Leinster last weekend.

But the hosts responded to that thrashing impressively, scoring two tries in the first 14 minutes.

Firstly, Davies broke from the base of the scrum to touch down for a superb individual try before going over for a second soon after.

Shingler converted both and Simon Easterby's men led 14-0, an advantage they held until the last minute of the half.

Try-scoring hero Davies was sin-binned alongside the visitors' Alberto di Bernardo after an altercation, and Botes reduced the deficit just before the interval.

Shingler soon restored that 14-point lead before a piece of individual excellence saw Nitoglia touch down and give the Italian team hope. But that was as good as it got for Treviso.

Instead, the Scarlets controlled the rest of the game and the boot of their centre guided them to victory. The former London Irish player duly added three more from the tee to take them to a comfortable win.
