Two tries: Jonathan Davies

The Scarlets claimed a convincing 24-6 victory over Cardiff Blues in their PRO12 clash at Parc y Scarlets on Saturday.

The home side came into this game having beaten Glasgow in their previous fixture, and so were in a similar situation to Cardiff Blues, who had overcome Zebre in their last encounter.

Leigh Halfpenny kicked off the scoring to the game, giving Cardiff the lead after converting a penalty.

However Scarlets responded through a try from Aled Davies, who made light work of the Cardiff defence on his way across the line.

Owen Williams then dutifully put away the conversion to make it 7-3. Halfpenny kicked another penalty to put Cardiff within touching distance before half-time, however this was short-lived as Scarlets were given a penalty almost immediately afterwards, Williams extending the lead to 10-6 going in at half-time.

The scoreline at half-time was perhaps a fair reflection of the game, though the minutes following the restart painted a different picture.

After the break, Jon Davies widened the gap between the two teams, with good work from Scott Williams providing the platform for the try. Williams then put away the conversion to make it 17-6.

Scarlets continued to press the advantage, and were rewarded in the 59th minute when Liam Williams ran in under the sticks, scoring the final try of the game.

Rhys Priestland then closed off the scoring when he put away the resulting conversion, giving Scarlets a well-earned win.

The victory takes Scarlets a step closer to a play-off place, and they will head into their clash with Treviso at the beginning of next month in confident mood.
