Six tries for super Saracens

Hat-trick: David Strettle

A first-half hat-trick from David Strettle set Saracens on their way to a 47-17 victory over Worcester at Allianz Park.

After Danny Gray and Charlie Hodgson had exchanged penalties early on, Strettle crossed for the opening try of the afternoon inside the first 10 minutes thanks in no small part to a great offload from the ever-improving Joel Tomkins.

A couple of strong runs from fellow rugby league convert Chris Ashton threatened to break the game open even more moments later but the Warriors defence clung on and Sarries had to settle for another Hodgson penalty.

The waves of attacks just kept coming from the home side though and Strettle grabbed his second soon afterwards with a superb individual effort.

The England international winger cut through the visitors' defensive line with ease and outstripped the covering defenders before Hodgson added the conversion to make it 18-3 with just 20 minutes on the clock.

And Strettle completed his quick-fire hat-trick as early as the 24th minute with another consummate finish in the corner and, although Josh Drauniniu did get over the line himself in the right-hand corner, the game looked as good as over at 23-10 at half-time.

The hosts eased up in the second half though and Worcester showed admirable spirit and resolve to get back into the match, with the impressive Matt Kvesic finishing off a pushover try to reduce the deficit to less than a converted try.

But Saracens raised their game again when the chips were down and the league leaders sealed the bonus point before the hour mark as replacement Carlos Nieto touched the ball down after an unstoppable drive by the forwards.

Hodgson then slotted another penalty before Strettle turned provider to feed his fellow winger Ashton for his third try in three games and Jackson Wray ruthlessly added a sixth try in the final minute to complete the rout.
