Jamie Roberts talking for Cardiff Blues

Try scorer: Jamie Roberts

Jamie Roberts marked his final home appearance for Cardiff Blues with a try in a 28-13 victory over Zebre at Arms Park.

Touchdowns by Rhys Patchell and Gareth Evans, aided by the typically accurate boot of Leigh Halfpenny, gave Cardiff a 21-6 advantage at the interval.

Zebre's Daniel Halangahu was also successful twice from the tee before the break, but in a dull second half Roberts went over for the Blues to effectively complete the win.

Filippo Cristiano did cross the whitewash late on for the Italian outfit but it was scant consolation as they suffered their 20th successive loss in the league.

The visitors have struggled throughout this campaign and have failed to win a game since their inception at the start of the season. And although they found themselves 3-0 up early on through the boot of Halangahu, their lead didn't last for long as the Blues scored 13 unanswered points.

Cardiff have also had a difficult season with the side exiting the Heineken Cup early and residing in the bottom-half of the league. But they found an element of fluency here against the basement-dwellers and, after Halfpenny had levelled the scores, Patchell touched down to take them 10-3 ahead.

The respective kickers traded penalties before another three-pointer by the hosts' full-back moved them into a 16-6 lead. Evans then scampered across the whitewash and Leonardo Sarto was sin-binned for Zebre as the Welsh region took a 21-6 advantage into half-time.

The scoreline remained the same for the first 30 minutes of the second period as both teams struggled to put consistent passages of play together.

That was until the soon-to-be departing Roberts touched down and, although Cristiano crossed for the Italian side, it was comfortable for the home team.
