A second-half try from centre Christian Loamanu gave Treviso victory over Zebre in the RaboDirect Pro12 Italian derby.
Loamanu crossed the whitewash after a scoreless first half and the try was converted by Alberto di Bernardo, who had missed three first-half penalties but made amends with his fourth attempt to put Treviso in the ascendancy.
Luciano Orquera's penalty ensured a losing bonus point for the hosts but they remain eight points behind fellow strugglers the Dragons.
Since their induction, the hosts have failed to win a game in either the PRO12 or the Heineken Cup. This all-Italian affair therefore offered them the perfect chance to finally register their first victory.
However, the home side were under pressure in the opening exchanges. Fly-half di Bernardo had two chances to put early scores on the board, but his penalty attempts were off-target.
Treviso continued to pile on the pressure and Salvatore Perugini succumbed when he was shown a yellow card. But the visitors failed to take advantage as their stand-off missed his third opportunity from the tee.
After conceding 50 points in successive weeks to Harlequins, Zebre were showing impressive resilience and, despite losing Carlo Fazzari to the sin bin, they held on until the break.
The interval seemed to do the trick for Benetton when Loamanu made up for their earlier profligacy to touch down three minutes into the second period. Di Bernardo added the extras, but he was awry for the fourth time when another three-pointer drifted wide soon after.
Although they had been dominated for the majority of the match, Orquera reduced the arrears with a quarter of the game to go. However, it wasn't to be as Treviso's fly-half finally sealed the victory with a penalty.
