Canterbury put 84 on Southland

Hat-trick: Johnny McNicholl

Canterbury kept the pressure on the pace-setting trio in the ITM Cup with a comprehensive twelve-try 84-0 victory over a hapless Southland on Sunday.

It was a ruthless performance from the Cantabs as Sean Maitland and Colin Slade watched the game suited from the stands in Christchurch.

And it was a trio playing in their usual positions who stole the show as full-back Johnny McNicholl scored a hat-trick, wing Telusa Veainu picked up two, while fly-half Tom Taylor succeeded with all twelve of his conversions in a one-sided romp.

It was their biggest win over Southland, eclipsing their 88-12 cruise back in 1993, while Canterbury have now crossed for 136 points in their last two games after putting 52 past Waikato last week.
