Trent Renata

Trusty boot: Trent Renata contributed all of Waikato's points

Waikato full-back Trent Renata kicked five penalties to help steer his team to a dour 15-6 ITM Cup win over Bay of Plenty in Hamilton on Tuesday.

The try-less victory was an important one for the Mooloos, who halted a two-match losing streak and pick up four valuable points to remain fourth on the standings - six points of the bottom-placed Steamers.

Bay of Plenty pivot Nick McCashin kicked two penalties for the visitors, however three relatively easy missed attempts didn't help his team's cause.

With the scores locked at 6-6 at half-time, Renata's three second-half penalties - the last in the 72nd minute - extinguished the Bay's hopes.
