Reds: Brush aside the Force

Reds pivot Mike Harris kicked seven penalties and two conversions to help his team see off the Force 35-20 in Brisbane on Saturday.
Harris was once again instrumental with the boot and has yet to miss a kick this season. He had a chance to equal John Eales' Queensland record for most penalty kicks in a match (eight) on full-time, but Will Genia went for a quick-tap instead which led to zero points being scored in the end.
What looked to be an easy win for the hosts, turned out to be a tough day at the office in their first game at Suncorp Stadium this season, with the Force fighting back from being 23-6 down at the break to 26-20 after the interval.
However, ill-discipline by the visitors was punished by the dead-eye goal-kicking Harris.
The torrential rain at the Suncorp Stadium made handling difficult but it was the Reds who adapted the better to the conditions.
Harris opened his account on nine minutes, with the Reds fly-half making no mistake from close range. And the Reds fans were on their feet after 21 minutes following a superb finish from centre Ben Tapuai. The outside centre held off two tackles as he charged down the flank to score in the corner.
The Force, though, regrouped well and two penalties in quick succession from James Stannard brought them back into the game.
However Harris slotted over a penalty and then converted Radike Samo's interception try - with the number eight snaffling Stannard's pace before outpacing the Force defence.
And another Harris penalty meant the Reds entered the break with a 23-6 lead. The advantage was increased by three immediately after the restart, with Harris on target once again.
However the Force hit back on 50 minutes with David Pocock breaking the tackle of Beau Robinson to score from Stannard's quick-tap. And the Reds were left on the ropes as more weak tackling saw Stannard danced his way over - with the half-back converting his own try.
Harris steadied the nerves with a beautifully struck penalty from out wide, giving the Reds a 29-20 lead.
Reds lock Rob Simmons should have put the game beyond doubt but he knocked on with the line at his mercy - but the boot of Harris gave the home side some breathing space.
And with time running out, Harris landed his ninth successive kick to seal the win.

@ Trinats... I did say most VALUABLE: poll your kiwi & saffa mates & I'm sure they'd both prefer the Wobblies to be Pocock-less than sans-Beale. If your new sources truly are the horse's mouth (your previous ones being from the other end of an entirely different beast) what say they on the question of yellow/ red cards in Bledisloe Cup matches 2008-11?

Kurtley Beale (ARU player of the year 2011 - the John Eales Medal) was born in Sydney NSW, Although he has been to Zimbabwe on holidays if that counts.
Maybe you need a new "reliable source" but don't try any of Trader's mates !!!! My source with for the reds is from the horses' mouth, so I'd say reliable.
Trader:
XXXX heavy is 5% ALC and drink enough you can get drunk, well maybe not you tough kiwi men who never get drunk, and where sheep are nervous.
I tend to favour a nice wine instead, Reds of course !

@isthatrightref if nothing else Trinats is consistent (consistently wrong). Thanks for that I missed the reference from genghis_j.

@ Trader... Harris' grandparentage was noted by genghis_j, an infinitely more reliable source than Trinats, several weeks ago. If a broken clock can be right twice a day then perhaps a broken record can occasionally play a proper tune... as usual though he can't help himself with the Kaino reference, forgetting that Australia's MVP in 2011 is Zimbabwe-born. Oh well, that's our Trinats for ya.

Hmmm Trinats as I suspected you keep making up those little stories don't you? In other words you haven't a clue (surprise surprise). As you often point out I didn't say anything about my source being drunk I just said he was drinking xxxx, you cannot get drunk on that rubbish.

You could be right, I don't think he has any South Sea Islander in him !!!
Does American Samoa fall under the South sea islands?? As that's where your best All Black 2011, was born.

Explains a lot, that your info comes from drunken mates !!!
I don't have to verify anything to have credibility with you. If you're worried ask Harris where his grandmother was born !

Now Trinats are you sure about Harris's grandparents, as we all know on this blog you make things up to suit your view on the world but I have info from a friend of a friend who knows Harris telling me that both sets of grandparents were NZ born. Now my source is a bit suspect (he was drinking xxxx at the time)so thought you would be able to supply some "facts' that can be verified, just for the record and it gives you a chance to regain a small semblence of credability.

Never mind two on the trot, unbeaten since June last year, and that was the Brumbies.

Have to agree, however didn't dampen the spirits in the crowd !
life2lifele55:
When Cooper is back Harris will move to 12 or the Bench, as he did last year. He is solid in defence, and kicking points, but Cooper turns those 3 points into 7. Harris lacks the attacking flare. I don't think he is good enough to be a Wallaby yet.
He qualifies for Aus selection because his grandparents are Aussies (before any idiots on here take your bait).

Ref ruined most of the game force were strong in the breakdown and they were wrongly penailsed from start to finish

Harris simply has to become a regular fixture in the wallaby back line. He is a fine player but most importantly his goal kicking is simply exceptional. Australia have not had a consistent, reliable goal kicker for years - this guy is the answer. There are plenty of other flair players in the backs for the wallabies, time to inject a little composure and someone who can nail the 3 and 2 pointers!
