Troy Nathan: Late try sinks Ulster

Troy Nathan's late try snatched a 17-9 victory for Glasgow Warriors over Ulster to continue their excellent recent form.

With eight minutes to go, the score was tied at 9-9 thanks to the boots of Duncan Weir and Ian Humphreys.

But Nathan's intervention saw the visitors heartbroken for the second week running, after Leicester Tigers similarly stole the win last week.

Despite starting the season strongly, four straight defeats saw Ulster plummet down the table, before a victory in their last league outing against Connacht ended that barren spell.

In contrast, a run of four straight wins has seen the Warriors get to within touching distance of the play-off places. And they started this game in ideal fashion as well when Weir slotted an early penalty.

However, Humphreys responded with one his own after 21 minutes.

Glasgow were starting to get on top and successive penalties from their stand-off saw them edge into a 9-3 advantage at half-time.

Two minutes into the second period and Ulster's fly-half reduced the gap with another three points and then levelled the scores soon after.

But the match once again became stagnant with both teams struggling to breach each other's defence.

Humphreys missed the opportunity to put the Irish province ahead twice in quick succession as the visitors pressed for victory.

But it was Glasgow who broke the deadlock when Nathan touched down. Weir missed the conversion but it wasn't to matter as he added a drop-goal to close out the victory.
