On the charge: Giovanbattista Vendetti

Nine points from Isa Nacewa helped Leinster overcome a stubborn Aironi side to record a bonus point 26-7 RaboDirect Pro12 victory.

In the driving rain neither team managed to gain an advantage in the first half.

Aironi's fly-half Tito Tebaldi missed a drop goal from right in front of the posts. Leinster should have opened up a commanding lead midway through the first half, however Isa Nacewa missed three successive penalty attempts.

The full-back, who has enjoyed a supreme start to the season with 45 points so far, failed to add to the haul - kicking three efforts wide.

The Italian side, fresh from last week's maiden victory, made the Heineken Cup champions pay with the opening score of the game on 35 minutes from Nick Williams.

The number eight forced his way over the line to score his second try in as many games.

Ian Madigan replaced young debutant Noel Reid at half-time and it was the replacement fly-half who ran under the posts as Leinster hit back to equalise 7-7.

The try rejuvenated a lacklustre Leinster who attacked with renewed vigour and ten minutes after the first, last year's player of the season Nacewa sprinted over to send Leinster 12-7 up.

Luke Fitzgerald ran over for Leinster's third try of the game, showing the Irish national side what they were missing with a sensational interception try to put the home side 19-7 ahead.

Rhys Ruddock completed the victory in the final moments as the Dublin side secured a bonus point victory.
