Cardiff's third: Martyn Williams

Cardiff Blues moved to the top of the RaboDirect PRO12 on Sunday after a four-try 33-18 victory over Treviso.

The Blues have made a perfect start to the season with ten points from their first two games.

6ft 6in, 19-year-old wing Alex Cuthbert put in a storming performance, scoring early on for the Welsh region before Tom James added a second try to give Cardiff a 21-18 lead.

Second half tries from Martyn Williams and Dafydd Hewitt helped Cardiff Blues to a bonus-point victory.

Cuthbert gave Cardiff an early lead with a fine solo try. The conversion was missed and a Chris Burton drop goal for Treviso reduced the Blues' advantage to two.

The lead was stretched to 8-3 in the tenth minute when Gareth Davies notched over a penalty, but the Italians hit back through a second Burton drop-goal.

Davies re-established the five-point advantage with the boot on 15 minutes, before Burton struck back for Treviso with his first successful penalty of the afternoon.

But less than a minute later the Blues were over for their second try of the afternoon.

Enterprising play sparked by a Chris Czekaj break created the space for Tom James to cross, and Davies' conversion made it 18-9.

But the Welsh side's indiscipline meant they were unable to build on their lead. Deiniol Jones was dispatched to the sin-bin, and Burton obliged with the boot twice while he was off the field.

The two penalties made the score 18-15, and a further penalty apiece before half-time ensured there wasn't much between the sides on the scoreboard when the half-time hooter sounded.

A turn of pace from flanker Martyn Williams gave Cardiff the perfect start to the second half, although Davies was unable to convert the try.

That score would be the only one until the dying minutes, when Dafydd Hewitt added the finishing touch to a successful day for the Blues. Ceri Sweeney added the conversion.
