No way through: Roddy Grant tries to find a gap for Edinburgh

Cardiff Blues continued their recent fine record over Edinburgh to open their RaboDirect campaign with a 38-15 bonus point victory.

The Blues defeated Edinburgh on all four occasions last season but looked to be heading for a defeat at Murrayfield until dramatically turning things around in the final quarter.

Trailing 14-15 with 57 minutes on the clock, the Blues scored 24 unanswered points to hand joint head coaches Gareth Baber and Justin Burnell a winning start.

Baber and Burnell took over team affairs in the summer following Dai Young's move to London Wasps, and their reign got off on a positive note when fly-half Ceri Sweeney put the Welshmen in front with a penalty in the first minute.

But Greig Laidlaw struck back with a penalty of his own and then landed four more as Edinburgh seized the initiative by punishing indiscretions from the visitors.

Cardiff found themselves back in front, though, shortly after the re-start when number eight Andries Pretorius went over and then prop Sam Hobbs added to his first half try following good work from the backs with their third of the night.

Tom James capped a successful evening for the Blues with the all-important fourth try that handed them an eighth straight win over Scottish opposition in all competitions.

Sweeney converted three of the Blues' four tries and landed four penalties for a personal haul of 18 points.
