Matt Giteau: Last match for the Brumbies skipper in Canberra

It was a case of sweet revenge for the Brumbies after running in five tries to beat the Rebels 32-17 in Canberra on Friday.

The last time these two teams met, it was the men from Melbourne who were celebrating in Round Two of the Super Rugby season.

However, the tournament newcomers were no match this time round as the Brumbies made it back-to-back wins for the first time in 2011. The Rebels managed two tries of their own, but it wasn't enough to save them from suffering an eighth defeat on the trot.

It was a fitting farewell for France-bound Brumbies' skipper Matt Giteau, who - after a forgettable Super Rugby campaign - at least leaves Canberra Stadium on a high.

Also playing their last game in Brumbies colours in the Australian capital were

winger Adam Ashley-Cooper, scrum-half Patrick Phibbs and lock Mitchell Chapman (who watched injured from the sidelines) as the Brumbies played their best game at home in 2011 and notched their fourth win from 15 games.

The hosts had their first try in the bag three minutes into the match, and the four-try bonus point wrapped up three minutes after half-time.

Christian Lealiifano opened the scoring for his team after a superb solo run saw the Brumbies full-back over the whitewash with both teams barely breaking a sweat.

Giteau made up for his missed conversion with a penalty a few minutes later and the writing was on the wall for the Rebels following two further run-ins by centre Tyrone Smith and Giteau in quick succession.

Smith's was a well worked touchdown, after the ball was spread through the hands whilst Giteau caught the Rebels napping with a quick-tap penalty from close-range.

Rebels pivot Danny Cipriani kicked a penalty in between, but the Brumbies were cruising after heading into the half-time sheds 18-3 ahead.

Hooker Stephen Moore continued the Brumbies momentum in the second half after breaking the line from 30m out, before offloading to Pat McCabe who crossed over next to the posts.

But the visitors hit back with two tries in six minutes through flank Jarrod Saffy and reserve back Afusipa Taumoepeau to narrow the score to 25-17. However, Moore sealed the deal with a try from a rolling maul seven minutes from full time.
